There were reports from Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users complaining about their phones becoming excessively hot. I had to talk to a friend of mine who is currently working as an engineer for a mobile phone manufacturer. According to him, it is normal for mobile phone to emit heat especially when used for hours. However, units that give off too much heat may have some hardware problems. Moreover, he said the possible causes of the problem are the following:
Possible Causes Phone not getting good ventilation. The battery may have physical damage. Phone's processor was overworked. Device was exposed to high temperatures. Excessive media streaming using mobile data. Solutions
Based on these possible causes, the following are solutions you can take in case your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 becomes so hot.
Solution 1: If the problem started to manifest after you've put on a new accessory, like a jacket or a cover, on your Galaxy Note 2, there is a possibility it's the one causing the problem. Phones like it needs proper ventilation and components inside were arranged in such a way that air would be allowed to circulate. The problem with third-party accessories is that their designers are more focused on producing products that look cool to the eyes but for the phone. The best course of action is to take it off and observe if the phone still heats up unnaturally after doing so.
Solution 2: One of the components that may cause overheating is the battery since it is the source of power. If the battery has been damaged for whatever reason, you may want to buy a new one and replace it for your own safety and that of your phone. Batteries have a tendency to explode if overcharged or exposed to extreme temperature. To check if the battery is damaged, take it out and physically inspect it. Look for leakages, swelling or cracks.
Solution 3: Another component that emits heat is the processor. One of the reasons you might have bought Galaxy Note 2 is because of its powerful CPU. But the thing is, the more powerful CPU is, the hotter it becomes when overworked. To prevent this, close apps that are running in the background. Applications that are heavy to load like games with high definition graphics often make the phone hotter.
Solution 4: When not in use, make sure you place your phone in the spot where it wouldn't be exposed to sunlight or high temperatures. Or at least, lock the phone before you put it inside your bag or pocket.
Solution 5: If you're used to streaming music or videos using mobile data, then you could expect your phone to become hotter the longer you use it. One of the good practices is that you turn mobile data off when not in used to stop the streaming and, of course, minimize the use of power. Remember, the phone becomes hotter when you're using mobile data instead of WiFi.
Solution 6: Stop using your phone when you feel the heat it emits is not normal. Have a technician take a look at it so the problem would fixed, or at least, you'll be advised accordingly what to do.
