Report: HTC to unveil smartphone with fingerprint sensor

HTC might be the next smartphone maker bringing fingerprint sensors to the masses.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the company is expected to announce the HTC One Max smartphone next Tuesday. Among the features that will be available on the device is a fingerprint sensor.

The report, which cites 'two people familiar with the matter,' doesn't provide information on how HTC plans on using the fingerprint sensor.

The technology has generated lots of interest from consumer after it was added to the latest iPhone by Apple. The fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5s is only accessible to Apple developers, and allows users to unlock the phone or make purchases from iTunes or the App Store.

Apple also notes fingerprint data is stored directly on the smartphone's processing chip, and not on Apple servers or iCloud.
