It's fair to say Nokia's current range of Lumia handsets haven't quite managed to reach the level of the big hitters in the mobile market, but with the rumored Lumia 1520 that may be about to change.
Of course Nokia will highlight the 41MP camera-toting Lumia 1020 and its current metal clad flagship, the Lumia 925, as competitive top-end phones - but a quick look at our 20 best mobile phones in the world, and it tells us a different story.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 looks set to be a beast of a Windows Phone smartphone - think Lumia 920, but beefed up in a considerable number of ways.
It will be interesting to see what kind of reception the new flagship Lumia 1520 will receive, as the Lumia 925 and 1020 are still relatively fresh on everyone's radar.
Cut to the chaseWhat is it? Nokia's next flagship and possibly the first Windows Phone with a quad-core processor and full HD displayWhen is it out? Expected to launch on October 22 at Nokia WorldWhat will it cost? Think Galaxy Note 3/HTC One Max level
Nokia Lumia 1520 release date
All eyes will be on Abu Dhabi on October 22, as this is the location for the Finnish firm's annual conference - Nokia World - and where it's expected to announce a host of new products.
This means October 22 is hotly tipped as the official Lumia 1520 launch date, and the smartphone is expected to lead the line in a series of announcements which may see Nokia unveil some mid and low end offerings as well.
There are reports that Nokia will have six devices on hand at the Abu Dhabi event, which could also mean more phones and perhaps even a tablet. If we were to really stretch our imagination, maybe some wearable tech, too.
We'll be reporting live from the event and if the handset does materialise make sure you keep an eye out for our hands on: Nokia Lumia 1520 review.
Given that the Lumia 1520 announcement is likely to be late October, we're expecting actual availability of the handset to be within the next few weeks, and certainly in time for the holidays.
Nokia Lumia 1520 price
Right now, we don't have any concrete information on the Nokia Lumia 1520 price.
We could go off of the pricing of the Lumia 925, or even the 1020 with its inflated price tag thanks to the PureView camera, however it's not that easy.
We would guess given the rumored size of the Lumia 1520 that it will fall in line with the wallet busting Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One Max.
That would make the Nokia Lumia 1520 price somewhere in the $700-$900 (around £500-£600) range based on its size, and depending on memory capacities and options.
Nokia Lumia 1520 display
A 6-inch, full HD monster
From what we've heard, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is set to sport a monster 6-inch display, making it the biggest Windows Phone handset to date and putting it in firmly in the 'phablet zone.'
This supersize screen is possible as the Lumia 1520 is expected to run the latest version of Windows Phone 8, which also allows it to boast a full HD display.
If the screen is anything like previous models it will be an AMOLED ClearBlack display. What that means is easy visibility in broad daylight, and strong contrast with deep blacks.
Nokia Lumia 1520 processor
The huge screen isn't the only exciting feature tipped for the Lumua 1520, as reports also point towards a powerful quad-core processor - again this would be a first for a Windows Phone.
Up until now manufacturers have had to make do with dual-core processor support on Windows Phone, while Android romps off head with quad-core handsets left right and centre.
But no more! The rumored Update 3 for Windows Phone 8 will provide support for the bigger chips and the Nokia Lumia 1520 looks set to be the first to take advantage.
Nokia Lumia 1520 operating system
We've already mentioned the Windows Phone 8 operating system for the Nokia Lumia 1520 in previous sections, and if the handset does exist this is the only platform it would realistically run.
Sporting the latest version of Windows Phone 8
It's not just Windows Phone 8 as we know it though, with the now Microsoft-owened Nokia expected to announce the Lumia 1520 is running the latest version of the OS - post ' Update 3'.
As well as bringing support for larger screens and quad-core processors - two things the Lumia 1520 is expected to take full advantage of - Update 3 for Windows Phone 8 will also bring a host of new features, bug fixes and enhancements as Microsoft looks to bring is mobile platform in line with the likes of Android and iOS.
Nokia will also add some of its own applications to the software, including Here maps and a dedicated camera app.
Nokia Lumia 1520 camera
We know Nokia takes its camera technology pretty seriously, but it's highly unlikely that we'll see anything like the 41MP PureView camera on the Lumia 1520.
What we're hearing so far is that the Nokia Lumia 1520 will have a 20MP camera, which is still a massive resolution by today's smartphone camera standards.
It will undoubtedly have excellent low-light performance as previous Lumia handsets have had, and excellent color reproduction and sharpness thanks to Nokia and Carl Zeiss optics.
If the 1520 is like the previous Lumia flagships, we'll also anticipate 1080p video recording with OIS, or optical image stabilization. That same stabilization system which helps with still camera performance in less than optimal lighting conditions.
Nokia Lumia 1520 design
There have been numerous images leaked claiming to show off the Nokia Lumia 1520, and while its difficult to verify the authenticity of any - the handset looks very similar in all the snaps
It looks like the Lumia 1520 will be just an overgrown Lumia 920, which isn't exactly surprising as Nokia looks to keep its own unique design language going - and it's not necessarily a bad thing either. However, gigantic smartphones can be a little unwieldy.
The Lumia 920 (185g) was a heavy phone, very heavy in fact, and we fear the Lumia 1520 could pile on the pounds even more - it may even trump the heavyweight HTC One Max (217g) when it hits the scales. For the sake of our wrists though, we hope Nokia manages to trim fat.
From the looks of leaked photos and the press photos, the body seems to share the same polycarbonate material and curvature that its predecessors had.
The glass covering the display also looks like it curves very gently into the body, as Lumia smartphones do. This gives the device a very seamless feel overall - plus it looks nice.
Nokia has also offered its Lumia handsets in a range of vibrant colors, and from the various leaks we've seen so far it looks like the Lumia 1520 could arrive in red, yellow, cyan, black and white.
There have been a number of Lumia 1520 leaks as of late, and the latest - courtesy of evleaks - shows off a red hot, Hot Red color for the device.
We mentioned, 'well-known Twitter leakster @evleaks came through again on this one after publishing a leaked press shot of the yellow Lumia 1520 in early September.'
More recently a press shot claiming to be of the Nokia Lumua 1520 emerged showing the handset in the firm's bright cyan hue.
So far we can glean a lot from the leaked images and rumors, but we're just days away from Nokia's official announcement where we'll bring you all the finer details about its new flagship device.
