Everything you need to know about the Nokia World event on October 22

Nokia is promising over half-a-dozen new devices to be announced at its Nokia World event on October 22. Will this be what Nokia needs to make itself more competitive against established device giants?

All eyes are on Nokia this week, as the company is planning a mega-launch event in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Among the devices that are likelyto be launched at the Nokia World event in the Gulf Kingdom are the likes of the Lumia 1520, which is going to be Nokia's first phablet, along with the Lumia 2520, which will be the Finnish manufacturer's first tablet offering. There will also be three new Asha devices that will be unveiled as well.

The Abu Dhabi event is one of the largest events held by Nokia, and might be the manufacturer's last such event in a long while. The majority of the devices that are likely to be announced at this event have been leaked on the Internet already, so let's take a look at all the new devices that we will see next week:

Nokia Lumia 1520

The Lumia 1520 will feature a 6-inch full-HD screen and other high-end hardware in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC that includes a 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. The device has also been said to feature a 20-megapixel PureView camera, and while it is not as earth-shattering as the 41- megapixel variant included in the Lumia 1020, it should more than enough for taking great images. The device will come with 2 GB RAM and internal storage variations of 32 GB and 64 GB.

The Lumia 1520 will be the first Windows Phone device that comes with such high-end features, and should be the first device that comes with Windows Phone GDR3 installed. The Windows Phone GDR3 update enabled support for devices with full-HD displays, which means that we will likely see other manufacturers launch Windows Phone devices with full-HD screens next year.

It has been said that Lumia devices will be getting an additional update along with Windows Phone GDR3, called 'Bittersweet Shimmer'. This will bring forth new additions like a notification center, as well as the ability to view notifications on the glance screen. Another feature that has been leaked is the ability to lock screen orientation, custom sounds for texts, emails, and a driving mode that mutes other notifications while you're driving.

Nokia Lumia 2520

The Lumia 2520, codenamed Sirius, is Nokia's first tablet offering, and is said to cater to the high-end market. The tablet will likely feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800, along with a 10.1-inch full-HD display that has 5-point multi-touch and wide viewing angles, 32 GB ROM and Windows 8.1 RT. A 6.7MP camera at the back and a 2 MP offering at the front are also said to be included. The tablet will come with 4G LTE connectivity, and feature USB 3.0 and micro-HDMI ports.

Nokia Lumia 1320

The Lumia 1320 is likely going to be the successor to the Lumia 625. It is said to feature the same 4.7-inch screen size as the Lumia 625, and a similar 5 MP camera with LED flash. The internal hardware is likely to be slightly better, and Nokia is said to launch the device for a much lower price tag than what the Lumia 625 was originally offered for. One of the main criticisms of the Lumia 625 was its high cost, with the Lumia 625 price being similar to the Lumia 720 in a few countries. Nokia is looking to not make the same mistake with the Lumia 1320.

Nokia Lumia 525

The Lumia 525 will be the successor to the best-selling Lumia 520. The Lumia 520 contributed to a third of all Windows Phone device sales in the first quarter of 2013, and its affordability along with great design were what led to its high sales. Nokia looks like it will likely retain the vibrant design of the Lumia 520, and will feature hardware that is in-line with what was offered on the Lumia 520. A new feature on the Lumia 525 will be the Nokia Music service, which will come bundled with the device. Nokia is also said to throw in a headset along with the device.

Asha 500, 502 and 503

Along with the new additions to the Lumia series, Nokia is also set to announce three new Asha mobiles. They will be the Asha 500, 502 and 503. The Asha 500 will be a dual-SIM offering, and features a similar design to the Asha 501. It is said to feature Wi-Fi and 2G connectivity.

The Asha 502 is a dual-SIM device as well, and has a camera with LED flash. The Asha 503 is the single-SIM variant of the Asha 502, and is said to feature 3G connectivity, a first for a device in the Asha series.

Aside from all the new devices, Nokia is also said to launch a few accessories. The acquisition of Nokia's devices unit to Microsoft will be finalized by March, so this will be the last time the Finnish manufacturer holds such an event.
