How big is too big? When you're talking Samsung smartphones, the limit is seemingly endless.
First, we saw the hefty Galaxy Note, then the immense Galaxy Note II and now the gargantuan Galaxy Mega.
With a 6.3-inch screen, the Samsung Galaxy Mega is the largest Android phone yet - the Jupiter in an ever-expanding solar system of smartphones. It's extremely un-pocketable, especially for those who lean toward tighter clothing. At 7 ounces, it's not particularly heavy, but to say it feels awkward to operate with one hand is something of an understatement.
The specs of the Mega are about equivalent to any midrange smartphone. It has a 1,280 x 720 screen, a dual-core 1.7GHz processor and an 8-megapixel camera. It's powered by Android 4.2.2 'Jelly Bean' software, and internal storage is 16GB (which you can augment with a microSD card).
Many of Samsung's special software features are on board, including Multi-window, which lets you have two apps running in different parts of the screen at the same time - something the Mega is well-suited for.
The Galaxy Mega's XXXL screen is the obvious highlight, of course. When a phone gets this close to tablet territory, it opens up entirely new experiences. While using the Mega over the past couple of weeks, I found it was far better at many everyday tasks, making smaller smartphones look rather inadequate.
Challenging the Mega to prove itself, we put it through a rigorous testing process, filming key parts of the experience. It didn't fail to impress, particularly at ping-pong.
